GANGWAY

I discovered that this danish band is exactly what I need for the moment. Especially their first album, "The Twist" from -84.

One of my favourites from the album (but all of them are great)

MARY ONETTES - DARE

2007 I was standing in the basement of Record Hunter, a store in Stockholm and some guy started playing guitar in the corner, just next to the second hand-A-C-section. He sang a few songs, and was really nervous because there was maybe four-five people in the audience, and he´d got no mic or anything, just a guitar. But I really liked the songs, and most of all I think I liked his deep voice.
It was the singer of Mary Onettes, who had just released their debut album. I bought it and was suprised how much I liked it, in fact it became one of my absolute favourites that year.

The same year Shout out louds released Our Ill Wills, another great album with a related sound. (Think A Flock of seagulls, New order, The Cure etc.) It was really a time of 80´s- influenced music in sweden. As two years has passed I´ve got a little bit tired of the new romantic sound, and I rather wanted punk-guitars than synth-pads in my speakers. But now, as Mary Onettes release a new ep 29 april; "Dare" I realize what a fantastic band they are. I can believe that it´s hard when you´re gonna release something new, and earlier were a part of a hype, not wanting people saying "Oh that feels so 2007...) but Mary Onettes new stuff doesn´t feel like that at all. They can really write great great songs, and I´m really looking forward to their next album.

Check the new songs out on their Myspace-page.

BLUE SUNSHINE

I used to listen quite often to Blue Sunshine by The Glove almost exactly one year ago. It was early springtime, I remember walking in the sun feeling a little bit more hopeful than before, longing like crazy for the summer.

It´s that time of the year again now. And this is a great, great record.

SLEEPWALKING

Freddie Wadling and his old Cortex really has a unique sound. I must quote my friend who said a few days ago: "It´s almost unbelieveble that a swedish band can sound like this. They sound so not-swedish." And i really agree to that, calling something "swedish" nowadays is more negative than positive. Still there´s a lot of good music coming from this cold and rainy country. This for example.

WISHING

They even said it on the news this morning. Spring is on it´s way.
So therefore, today´s soundtrack is this sweet little poptune.

NOSTALGIA

I went to my local record store a few days ago. I stood there looking for something new in the recordtrays and suddenly the guy behind the cashdesk plays a record with the song Nostalgia. I hadn´t heard it before so I asked him what it was. Apparently the song´s name couldn´t have been more suitable.

"It just came in" he said. "Haven´t heard this since the early 80´s". And he smiled like he got reminded of something beautiful and sad at the same time.

It was the album The Fan And The Bellows, containing early recordings from The Chameleons (sometimes called The Chameleons UK) . I guess bands like Interpol and Editors have picked up a few things from them. They´ve got the same mood and everything, but Chameleons feels a bit more alternative, a bit more narrow.

Anyway, I listened to a few more songs together with the nostalgic recordman. Then I bought the record and went home. Here´s two songs from it.
